About Vic Hooper

Bio

Vic Hooper started his musical career as a self taught piano/organ player performing in community dance bands in the area surrounding his home town of Waskada, Manitoba. After just a couple years of studying piano and voice in his late teens, he began his formal music education at Brandon University where he obtained a bachelor's degree in Music Education. He also holds a certificate in Commercial Art from Assiniboine Community College and a pre masters certificate in Education (drama) from the University of Manitoba. His professional career began teaching general and choral music and art in The St. James-Assiniboia School Division in Winnipeg, MB spanning grades 1 to 12.

June of 2005 marked the end of his 29 years with The St. James-Assiniboia School Division - 13 years Teaching, 14 years as Music Coordinator along with teaching choral music and art at Silver Heights Collegiate and directing the award winning St. James-Assiniboia Divisional Senior Chamber Choir, and 2 years as Coordinator of the Arts.

In his "retirement" he continues to work with choirs as director and clinician as well as further developing his new passion of designing websites and developing his skills at building data bases with Filemaker Pro.

Vic lives in a downtown modernized Victorian home with his partner, Pieter Jongbloed.

Winnipeg Music Festival:

  • Beth Douglas Trophy for best school choir overall
  • Saults and Pollard Shield for best community choir 19 yrs. and under
  • Salisbury House Trophy for the best classroom choir grades 7-9.
  • The Helga Anderson Trophy for the most outstanding adult community choir (Rainbow Harmony Project 2007 and 2008)

Other Festivals and Competitions:

  • Consistent Gold standings at City and National Festivals
  • 2nd Place Overall, Sweet Adelines International Region 6 Competition and many other medals including one for Most Improved Chorus.
